All grave digging tools should be inspected before beginning to excavate. If any tools need to be repaired or replaced, they should not be used until this is done. The job requires proper gear including protective boots, helmets and eyewear. Helmets and eye protectors are a must when excavating. In tougher grave conditions, a breaker gun may be used, and can be rented. Mechanical diggers may also be required. However, only trained and certified professionals should be appointed to carry out mechanical digging.

In addition to grave digging tools, the proper utilization of the shoring method and equipment is important. Shoring is a must whenever the excavation depth is more than 4 feet. These tools require proper handling by at least by two people. Hydraulic and teleshoring are the two methods of shoring used while grave digging. The grave digging tools required are hydraulic cylinders, pumps, hydraulic hoses, and couplings. Sometimes, in the case of a problem in the grave area, shore grave retrieval hoists might be required.

Grave Digging Tools at the Time of Excavation

A pole ladder is a must while moving in and out of the excavation site. The planks should be placed at the edges to evenly distribute all the loads and avoid the chances of collapse. The grave should be covered with wooden planks and boards when left unattended. At the time of burial, the area near the grave must be made secure with timber boards for the family and relatives to stand around the grave. They should be at least 1 inch thick and spread outward to handle the weight.

During the winter, grave digging tools must be heavy duty and more sturdy to break through the hard, frozen ground. A grave blanket is used to dig graves in winter. All other tools and devices work more efficiently when the ground is allowed to thaw for 12 to 18 hours with the use of a grave blanket. Grave blanket usage requires a power generator or LP gas cylinders. Hand shovels and a heavy gauge steel back hoe are required in grave digging during winters, as they have greater load-bearing capacity.
