Creating your own wedding invitations helps save money.

Selecting wedding invitations is no small chore, especially considering the style and price ranges available. However, those overpriced invitations can also seem a little cold and impersonal. Creating your own cards saves money and adds a personal touch to each wedding invitation you send. Making your own invitations also means that you can select the colors and styles that best match your wedding theme.

  1. Elegant White

    • Stick with quality white cardstock and delicate black lettering to create elegant wedding invitations. Stencil golden doves across the front of each card for a classic touch. You can also use dove stickers or stamps to create a decorative image.

Use calligraphy if possible to write each invitation, but it takes serious time and effort to learn. If you own a nice copier, you may be able to print each invitation with calligraphy-style lettering. Fold each card in half to create a simple but elegant invitation.

    Funky Fuchsia

    • Add a little funk to your basic wedding invitations by selecting fuchsia cardstock and flower cut-out stamps. Cut flower shapes along the left side of each cardstock piece. Glue the fuchsia card over a sheet of cream cardstock so the fuchsia is on the outside and the cream is on the inside. Print the invitation wording on the cream cardstock before gluing.

Fold the invitation in half to create a basic card shape. Secure a cream ribbon to the middle front of each card to help accentuate the cream paper peeking from the cut-away flower shapes.

    Modern Stripes

    • Make crisp and modern-looking wedding invitations by getting creative with striped paper. Print bold black letters on cardstock with ivory and cream horizontal stripes. Paste each printed paper on a larger piece of cardstock with forest and emerald green vertical stripes.

Fold each card in half so that the green paper is on the outside, and seal the card with an ivory heart sticker. Use ivory ink to write the initials of the bride and groom on the front of each card.

    Earthy Flowers

    • Select rough and earthy light brown cardstock to create wedding invitations with an organic appeal. Print or write the message on the middle of each cardstock piece. Fold each invitation like doors, so the left fourth and right fourth of the card fold over the front. Punch a hole in the middle of each "door." Slip a piece of twine through the holes and tie into a small bow to secure the card closed. Slide a dried flower into the bow knot to add a punch of color.
