Birthday Party Ideas Around Chicago For 11-Year-Olds
Finding a venue for an 11-year-old's birthday party can sometimes be a little tricky. An 11-year-old is too old for kiddle parties, but isn't old enough for venues that target teenagers. Party guests can vary widely in maturity and the type of entertainment they can handle. However, Chicago contains several venues that target tweens and are willing and able to host their birthday celebrations. Does this Spark an idea?

Chicago Children's Museum
-
The Chicago Children's Museum, located on Navy Pier, hosts birthday parties that can last all day. For a small per-person fee, groups of 15 or more can have access to the museum and all of its hands-on activities, play areas, storytelling times and art classes all day. Everyone is granted in and out privileges, though there must be a ratio of 1.5 adults for every one child. Reservations must be made at least 30 days in advance. Another option is to also include a visit to the Navy IMAX. That package includes a show for all guests plus three hours at the museum.
Cozmic Bowling
-
Waveland Bowl offers Cozmic Kids Bowling party packages that 11-year-olds are sure to enjoy. The facility turns out the regular lights and turns on black lights. Next to get flipped on are the fog machines, dancing lights and music. The pins and balls glow in the dark to make a non-traditional bowling party. Cozmic Kids parties can be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, or on 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays or Sundays. As of March 2011, prices range from $80 to $480, depending on the day, how many lanes you reserve and how many people are at the party. Shoes are included in the rental. No outside food except cake is allowed. If you provide Waveland Bowling with the names and addresses of the party attendees before the party, it will mail them a certificate good for a free game.

Chicago Art & Design Center
-
Leave it to an art center to come up with birthday themes designed to appeal to children of all interests. The two-hour parties let children create art according to the party's theme along with playing games and eating cake. Some of their themes include interactive art story, space adventure, pirate themes, painting, dinosaurs, superheros, underwater explorers, rock stars, dream land, self-portrait, mermaids, princesses, fairies, beach, farms, jungles, puppets and circuses. Five of the themes (Dream Land, Paint on Canvas, Me and Myself, Famous Artist and Free Brush) are geared specifically for 10- to 13-year-olds. Parties can be held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. As of March 2011, parties are priced at $250 plus $15 for each guest, with a maximum of 15.
