Goth Wedding Games

Welcome guests and keep them entertained with creative Goth games.

Your "Goth" wedding may include the medieval sounds of a pipe organ, a gargoyle statue to greet your guests and a black horse-drawn buggy to whisk you away at the end of the evening, but don't forget the games if you want to keep guests thoroughly entertained. Though wedding games are traditionally reserved for the bridal shower, it's your day, so you can add fun wherever you want. With a few well-planned activities, your Goth wedding can be an event guests will rave about for years.

  1. Pass the Coffin

    • For this game, you will need a small wooden box in the shape of a coffin, wrapping or construction paper and a small prize, such as a piece of dark chocolate. Insert the prize into the coffin and wrap it ten times. Choose a song that is fitting to your theme, such as "Friend of the Night" by Mogwai or a classical song from Bach or Chopin. Instruct your DJ to play the song as guests pass the wrapped coffin around the room. The music should stop periodically and whoever is left holding the coffin is instructed to unwrap one layer. The guest who unwraps the last layer gets to keep the coffin and the prize inside.

    Formerly White

    • Fill small clear glass containers with common white cooking ingredients, such as sugar, flour, baking soda and salt. Insert one to two drops of black food coloring to each jar and mix the contents thoroughly; the contents should turn a light grey color. Number each jar and keep a list of the contents. Guests must guess the contents purely on sight. The guest with the most correct answers wins a prize.

    Anything But Cute

    • Purchase inexpensive necklaces that correspond with your wedding's theme. They may be made of simple black beads or feature a bat pendant strung on a rope. Hand one to each guest as they enter the wedding and instruct them to listen for other guests uttering specific words, such as "cute," "adorable" or "pretty." Every time a guest catches someone uttering a taboo word, she can take possession of that person's necklace. At the end of the night, the guest with the most necklaces wins a prize.

    The Macabre Tray

    • Fill a tray with several items that coordinate with your Gothic theme. Your tray may include items such as a skull-shaped candle, a mini guillotine, a coffin or a cracked ostrich egg. Set the tray in a highly trafficked area of your event, such as the entry to the dance floor or the hallway in front of the bathrooms, but do not alert guests to the game. Halfway through the event, remove the tray and ask guests to list the items it contained. The person with the most correct guesses gets a prize.
