The Marmot EOS 1P Tent is a single-person camping shelter. The tent is lightweight and is designed for solo backpacking trips. Marmot offers several different tent models for backpacking in various sizes. This is one of the smallest versions, and has good overall on-line reviews from Marmot and REI customers.

  1. Fabric Materials

    • The tent uses a double wall design. The shell has a ripstop nylon floor with a mesh top. The floor is sewn in a bathtub style to prevent water from entering the tent. The floor is also waterproof and the seams are taped for extra durability. The mesh netting is a no-see-um material that prevents small insects from penetrating the tent interior. The material also allows air circulation. The tent comes with a rain fly that uses the same waterproof ripstop nylon as the floor. The fly is also coated with silicon as an extra measure of protection against water.

    Weight

    • The weight is the selling point for this tent. The maximum weight is 3 pounds 3 ounces. This weight includes the poles, shell, fly, stakes and footprint. The minimum weight is 2 pounds 12 ounces. This weight removes the footprint and replaces the stakes with natural materials. The tent is made even lighter by removing the poles, but it loses rigidity and is less effective.

    Dimensions

    • The tent offers just under 23-square-feet of interior floor space. The packed tent measures 17.5-by-5.5 inches and the erected dimensions are 36-by-40-by-90 inches. This leaves enough headroom for most people to sit up, but the interior width and length are tight for larger individuals. The rain fly also creates a vestibule that adds 6.5-square-feet for gear storage.

    Seasons and Setup

    • The tent is designed for three-season use. It is not adequate for winter, as the roof is not capable of bearing heavy snow loads and the fly does not protect the interior from high moisture levels. The fly repels normal rains and moisture and the bathtub floor prevents runoff from seeping into the tent.
