How do I Decorate Birdhouses?
Birdhouses are fun to make and design. There are all sorts of birdhouses made out of metal, clay and wood. Many people have taken up the hobby of decorating birdhouses for the indoors or outdoors. A wooden birdhouse can be decorated using paint, craft wood, dollhouse furniture and mosaic art.

Painting the Birdhouse

Paint the entire birdhouse white first so that the color you chose will look brighter. Let the birdhouse dry for two to three hours or until it is no longer sticky. Paint your color of choice over the white paint and let it dry. Have fun creating different designs with the paint. Polka dots can be made by making different color paint dots all around the birdhouse. Another option is to make colored stripes by painting different color straight lines starting from the top of the birdhouse and moving the brush until the bottom of the birdhouse.
Craft Wood

Wooden shakes can be created to give the birdhouse a real life look. To create the shakes, cut wooden squares out of craft wood with heavy duty scissors. The squares should be glued to the roof. For a rounded birdhouse roof, the craft wood squares should be placed in a circle on the roof in layers to create shakes. Paint over the roof the color that is desired and let it dry.

Dollhouse Furniture

The outside of the wooden birdhouse can be decorated with furniture that would normally go in a house. Buy some dollhouse furniture such as little picture frames, cups, mirrors or dressers. If there is not so much space on the birdhouse then choose furniture from one type of room. Decide how the furniture will be placed and super glue each piece to the place on the birdhouse.
Mosaic Art

There are many artistic ideas to use on your birdhouse. One idea is to use waterproof glue to place colored stones on the birdhouse. The stones can be placed randomly or in a certain pattern. Sea shells can also be glued on the birdhouse facing down or up depending on the desired look. Another creative idea is to glue buttons on the birdhouse. The buttons can range in sizes, shapes and colors and be placed in the design of choice.
