Ideas for Cowboy Decorations

You can never go wrong with cowboy hats.

Cowboy decorations add the spirit of the Old West to a kid's room, living room or Western party. For a seamless look, choose decorations that blend in with the existing decor of your home. While you can find some permanent additions for your home at Western supply stores or antique shops, you should visit your local party star to buy cowboy-themed decorations if the style is meant to be only temporary.

Cowboy Sculptures or Toys

Cowboy sculptures featuring a cowboy riding his horse work well as decor in a modern Western-styled home. For maximum impact, place these wooden or ceramic sculptures in a focal position, such as on a mantle or counter top. Wooden cowboy sculptures can also blend nicely in a little boy's room. Other options include plastic or plush cowboy toys.

Real Cowboy Gear

Decorate your home with real cowboy gear; you can find relics and other supplies at Western or antique shops. Install three hat hangers near the front of your door and hang up three different types of cowboy hats. Coil a rope on another wall and place a saddle on a mantle or in the living room for display. Adorn your shelf with old-fashioned pistils, sheriff stars and other Western antiques.

Paint

Paint small cowboys riding their horses along the border of the room, if you want to make the cowboy decor permanent. Feature cowboys on different types of horses, such as Arabian or quarter horses. You can also paint a sheriff's star in between each horse and cowboy for more variety. If your budget allows, hire an artist to paint a cowboy mural that features horses, a saloon or a Western landscape on one of the walls.

Framed Photos of Western Stars

Purchase rustic oak picture frames, and set black and white photos of Western heroes from 1950's movies in them. You can find these photos online, at antique shops or Western stores. However, if you are decorating a kid's room, frame pictures of cartoon cowboy heroes, like Woody from the movie "Toy Story."
