PartyPoker.com offers players the chance to compete for free.

Poker has long been a pastime for many, but not until the 21st century did it become commonplace on the Internet. PartyPoker.com gives players the opportunity to sharpen their playing abilities by taking on other players from around the world for free. Once you sign up for an account, you are given 1,000 play chips to use in free games, with more available as needed. All games have required bets called blinds and antes to make pots bigger and the games faster.

  1. Texas Hold 'Em

    • Texas Hold 'Em is the poker game commonly televised for World Series of Poker events. You get two cards only you can see. After a round of betting on your starting cards, three community cards are placed on the table. Players can then bet, check and stay put, or fold to a bet if they do not think they can win. Another card then comes out and another betting round happens. A final card and betting round end the hand. You want to have a better five card poker hand than any other player. You do not have to use both or even one of your starting cards; you just want the best possible hand.

    Omaha

    • Omaha is a lot like Texas Hold 'Em except you get four cards dealt to you at the beginning instead of two. A betting round takes place after these four cards are dealt. After this, three cards are dealt on the table for community use. After a round of betting, another card is placed on the table. Another round of betting ensues and then a final card is placed on the table. The final betting round then occurs. You want to make the best five card hand you can while only using two of the four cards in your hand at most. While you can not use more than two, you also do not have to use any if it prohibits you from a better hand.

    Seven Card Stud

    • Seven card stud is a poker game where you get two cards face down and then one dealt face up to start. Your goal is once again to make the best five-card poker hand. You are then dealt three more cards face up and one final card face down at the end. You have the opportunity to wager your free chips after each card is dealt out, though you can fold if you do not want to stay in the hand.

    Gameplay Variety

    • Party Poker offers multiple tournament formats for free. Sit 'n' Go tournaments are structured to run shorter than standard tournaments for players with less time. Many of these tournaments are one table, while others include multiple tables that narrow down as players are eliminated. Standard tournaments usually take chips from players through blinds and antes at a slower rate, so they take longer. Players also have the option of playing cash games where you are not eliminated, your chip count just decreases.
