1920s Hairstyles for Children
Children's hairstyles of the 1920s were similar in style to the popular adult styles of the era. The length and style options were like the adults, but there were some slight variations in items like hair accessories. While the styles were modeled after the flashy looks of the flapper fashions, children fell into the background for style, because they were not as flashy as the adult fashions. Bobbed

Bobbed hairstyles were popular in the 1920s; they were as common on little girls as on adults. Bobbed hairstyles are cropped short--usually around the length of the chin or so--and frame the face. During the 1920s, little girls hair was sometimes bobbed to keep up with the popular fashions of the day. Cuts varied slightly, but they were usually cut straight around the head or slightly shorter in the back. The children's style would comb the hair and then tie a big bow in the hair to give a youthful and child-like appearance.
Boy's Hair

Boys' hairstyles were commonly cut short and parted to one side. The hair was then combed backward, to define the part and create a neat appearance in the boy. Water was added to the hair to make it easier to comb and part. Boys styles did not change much from previous eras.

Shingle Cut

Shingle cut bobbed styles were popular in the 1920s and created a wavy appearance to the hair rather than a straight cut. The shingle cut was closer to the head and look more masculine in style than the delicate bobbed styles of the early or beginning 1920s. The cut was a short layer cut, which had worked gradually from the bottom up, leaving longer hair at the top and shorter hair underneath. The shingle cut was less common for young girls, but it was possible.
Shoulder Length

Young girls did not always have hair cut short. While the styles of adults were bobbed, younger girls sometimes had shoulder length hair tied with a bow or had ringlet curls, which were around the shoulder length. To style the hair, it was comb out and then had a ribbon wrapped around the head from the bottom and behind the ears to the top of the head, where it was tied in a bow.
