Jobs at Christian Colleges
Christian colleges offer a wide variety of jobs, most of which are no different than the types of jobs you would expect find at any public or private college. But there are some positions that require special backgrounds in Christian ministry or theology. The types of jobs at a Christian college range from cooks and janitors to police officers, teachers and administrative staff. The needs of each college are different, however, based on location and size.

Academic Positions
-
Most Christian colleges require professors to have a master's or doctorate degree before teaching students. Some colleges require professors to have a background in Christian studies. Louisiana College, a private Baptist school, requires its Christian studies professor to have a background in "systematic theology and Christian studies," for example. Most Christian colleges require professors to be a practicing Christian. Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia requires its professors to be "committed Christians."
Law Enforcement and Security Positions
-
Most colleges employ police or private security guards. Most colleges employ either an on-campus police force or, more commonly, a private security team. This is a specialized job, and some colleges require security guards to pass law-enforcement training. Campus police or security guards are responsible for campus patrols, student safety, traffic direction and a host of other tasks. At Colorado Christian, for example, a staff of about five private guards patrol the campus 24-hours a day. They also man a call center and respond to students in need of assistance.

Religious Positions
-
Some positions at Christian colleges require expertise or a specialized background in Christian ministry. Most Christian colleges, for example, employ a campus chaplain. The chaplain is usually responsible for overseeing the affairs of the church within the school. Some chaplains have additional responsibilities. At East Texas Baptist University, the chaplain also serves as the vice president for spiritual development.
Administrative Positions
-
Like any college, Christian colleges have paperwork and administrative duties to perform. The admissions offices require clerical staff, which the accounting departments often hire certified public accountants. There are also jobs for administrative assistants, management and college deans. Check out the website for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities for the latest job listings.
