After the arrival of a new baby, parents can use all the help and support they can get. Show them you care with a special, homemade craft for their newest addition. Although baby may not appreciate the homespun beauty of these gifts (at least not yet), parents will surely delight in the extra effort you went through to make a truly personal gift.

Scrapbook
-
Give parents a place to put all those new baby pictures. Personalize a store-bought scrapbook or photo album for the new parents to fill in. Cover the book in a pretty decorative paper. In the center of the book, attach a picture of the child. Center the picture on a piece of colored paper slightly larger than the photograph for a more polished look. Using stencils or stickers, write the child's name. Adorn the rest of cover with with stickers, artwork, jewels or other embellishments. You can fill in the first few pages with pictures of the parents, mom during pregnancy, or the baby as a newborn. Every few pages, add a small embellishment similar to the ones on the cover.
Plush Booties
-
Stuff a pair of baby socks with cotton balls. Place a small plastic bell, like an unused cat toy with an enclosed bell, within the cotton ball filling. Twist the sock closed and wrap it into itself, creating a ball. Place each sock inside a baby bootie. By wrapping the sock within the bootie, the bell remains out of baby's reach, preventing a choking hazard. You can wrap the cotton-stuffed sock in another sock before placing it in the bootie for added protection. Close the booties securely with an elastic band or short ribbon. You may want to include the directions for making this toy, since new parents are likely to have plenty of mismatched socks and booties to deal with.

Bath Time Buddy
-
Give baby something to hold on to during bath time. Pull together a some easy-to-make toys and place them in a pretty gift box. Make a few so that it's no big deal when one breaks or gets lost. Re-purpose small, multi-colored washcloths for a bath time toy. Tightly ball up a washcloth and wrap another cloth around it. Drape a third washcloth on top of that so that both cloths can be seen. Tightly tie a ribbon around the base of cloth ball to secure the draped cloths.
Clothes
-
Make your own iron-ons to attach to plain white newborn onesies. Attach a small piece of decorative fabric to iron-on adhesive, according to package directions. Use a stencil or cookie cutter to trace a design onto the fabric. Carefully cut the design out of the fabric. You can attach the decals to onesies on your own, or give them as-is and allow parents to dress up any the plain onesies in their collection.
