Dyson DC14 With Broken Hose

The Dyson DC14 is a model of upright vacuum cleaner. The model features Dyson's patented Cyclone Root technology, which uses centrifugal force to separate dust from the airflow. Dust and other debris collect inside the Dyson DC14 bin, which must be emptied periodically. The vacuum will function at less than full capability, however, if the hose is broken or damaged in any way. Learn how to replace and remove this part to restore your Dyson DC14 vacuum cleaner's performance. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Location and Purpose

    • The vacuum can be found along the back of the Dyson DC14. The hose is attached at one end to the long-reach wand handle and at the other to the head of the u-bend assembly. Made of flexible plastic, the hose can bend in multiple directions for increased ease of operation. The hose serves the simple purpose of vacuuming and guiding dust and debris into the DC14 bin. A damaged hose -- one that has a gash or tear -- reduces the degree of suction and the machine's ability to collect debris.

    Availability

    • A Dyson DC14 hose replacement is available directly through Dyson. The replacement hose is all gray and has an attachment sleeve at both ends. The Dyson DC14 replacement hose, part number 908474-37, retails for $29.99 as of 2011. The hose is available through other retailers as well. Prices will vary.

    Hose Removal

    • Extend the wand to its full position, up and away from the hose. Two buttons are at the base of the wand handle. Press these buttons while pulling the hose away from the wand handle. The top half of the hose is now free. Proceed to the base of the hose. The hose disappears into a plastic sleeve. Pull the tab at the rear of the sleeve away from the vacuum, and lift the sleeve free of the Dyson DC14.

    Hose Installation

    • The replacement hose has a sleeve at the bottom, identical in shape, if not color, to the old sleeve. Turn the sleeve so that the tab is facing the Dyson DC14, and slide the sleeve down until it clicks in place. Direct the top end of the hose into the base of the wand handle, and listen for a click.
