Senior School Activities

Students should enjoy bonding activities their senior year in high school.

When students enter high school at the age of thirteen or fourteen, society still considers them children. When they graduate, they have become adults. High school seniors should celebrate the transition into adulthood and say goodbye to childhood with special senior school activities. Since most students graduate in the spring or summer, choose activities that will take advantage of the warm weather and extra sun. Students should take a vote on which activities the senior student body wants to take part in and choose a variety of celebrations.

  1. Field Day

Organize a field day for students, scheduling activities such as a senior picnic and a field trip to an amusement park, the beach or a sports complex. Take a school bus to the beach if you attend school near the ocean or a lake. Students can enjoy a picnic, field games and swimming --- all at little cost. If students can raise money, take a trip to a local amusement park or water park. Play baseball or kickball and organize scavenger hunts.

    Dances

Organize a good-bye dance for seniors. Choose a theme that students will remember, highlighting some of the senior class's achievements and successes. For example, if the school basketball team won a record number of games that year, hold a dance that features balloons decorated as basketballs, March Madness invitations and streamers in school colors, and encourage students to attend the dance dressed as their favorite basketball player.

    Senior Picnics

In addition to a senior field day, organize a separate senior picnic. If the school doesn't have access to a picnic area on school grounds, rent a picnic spot from the town. Create a menu everyone will enjoy by incorporating healthy foods with picnic favorites. Take a vote from the student body on which foods they'd enjoy. Offer picnic favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, chips and soda. Require students choose one healthy option such as grilled corn, salad or fruit. Add something more exotic like pineapple chicken, mango pork or coconut ice cream. As the cafeteria staff to help with food preparation, or ask parents to volunteer.

Hold a luncheon for seniors and their families the day of graduation. At the luncheon, senior should present awards to teachers and faculty and thank them for their support. Present awards to senior activity committee leaders and senior advisors. Take this opportunity to speak to seniors' parents one last time, and offer them an opportunity to sign up for future volunteer and alumni activities.

    Senior Committees

    • Create senior activity committees, and vote on who should head up each committee. Students can create committees for decorations, food, special activities and fundraising. While each committee should meet individually, create meeting opportunities for committee leaders to convene and discuss progress, challenges, time frames and budgets.
