The Best Drinks for a Party

Drinks are an essential part of any party.

Whether they are custom cocktails or punch-bowl classics, drinks are an essential part of planning any party. While there is a wide range of drink options available, try to choose the types of drinks that are appropriate to the kind of party and its attendees. Selecting more than one type of beverage will give your guests options.

The Signature Cocktail

Custom cocktails add variety and a special touch to parties.

Custom mixed drinks take more time to put together but, made in advance, the signature cocktail will delight your guests. Select a mixed drink and make a sampler for yourself. Among the more sophisticated party drinks is wine. There are literally thousands of varieties of wine, with many price points, so choosing wine for a party can be a chore. Figure out what you're willing to spend on wine and ask employees at the liquor store about the available options. Consider selecting wines from local or regional vineyards. Select a few different types of wine; it's a good idea to provide your guests with the option of choosing a white or red wine.

Non-Alcoholic Options

Fruit punch is an alternative to alcoholic drinks.

Not all guests want to drink alcohol, and there are times when alcoholic beverages are not appropriate for a party. Easy and popular non-alcoholic drink options include soda, iced tea, coffee, water and juice. For a special touch, put out a bowl of homemade punch. Websites such as the Food Network have dozens of recipes, and you can add a special touch with slices of fruit as garnishments. Try cutting lemons or oranges into thin slices, and floating them on top of the punch for added color and flavor.
