Masquerade Ball Party Ideas
A masquerade ball is a party where the guests wear masks that cover the face from the nose up and costumes reflecting the party's theme. Whether the theme is a romantic grand ball from the courtyards of Venice, a wild melee for Mardi Gras or the dark and frightening world of spirits for Halloween, it should capture guests' imagination. A masquerade party gives guests the opportunity to choose or make a mask and costume of their own that reflects their personality. Does this Spark an idea?

Halloween Masquerade Party
-
Halloween presents unlimited opportunities for the host and guests. Creating a frightening atmosphere is largely a matter of using black lighting to make glowing ghosts made from white tulle and hung from the ceiling so air circulation will swirl the thin fabric giving the illusion of flight. White plastic skulls and cardboard skeletons from party stores will also glow menacingly in the black light. Section off a hallway and make it into a scary haunted house. Instruct all guests to wear Halloween-themed costumes that glow where possible and send a listing of colors and how to color other materials to glow in black light. Along with the invitations, send some instructions on what size mask to wear, where to rent or buy masks and costumes, and tips on how to make your own costume.
Mardi Gras Masquerade Party
-
Mardi Gras is a well-known celebration conducted in New Orleans and other cities each year. It's difficult to recreate Bourbon Street in your party room, but by turning the lights down low, hanging paper lanterns from the ceiling and liberally sprinkling confetti and bead necklaces around the room, you can create some of the atmosphere. Space the beverages and seafood snacks around the walls like the different restaurants and bars that line Bourbon Street and play lots of jazz music.

Pirates Party
-
Pirates are a continuing source of interest for party-goers. Decorate the room with treasure chests of cheap plastic jewelry and gold-wrapped chocolate coins. Assemble a fake 'walk the plank' setup in the middle of the room and even rig some sails from white sheets. Use lots of red, black and gold crepe ribbons looped from the wall. Serve "grog," or blood-red, spiked punch. Give the guests a great deal of latitude in their choice of pirate masks and costumes.
Black and White Masquerade Party
-
Decorate a room that has white walls and if possible, white floors, with black balloons and black crepe paper streamers; use black tablecloths and white napkins. Send out invitations giving the guests firm instructions to wear only black or white or black-and-white masks and costumes. Serve black and white foods, such as black petit fours alternated on a platter, almonds covered with black and white yogurt and even black bread finger sandwiches with white turkey breast. Have a photographer present to take black and white photos of the guests.
