Crazy Ideas for a Sweet 16 Party
If you are about to turn 16, then you know how big that particular birthday is for you. In many states you can apply for a driver's license or permit. Other states allow you to officially join the workforce, and some states even allow you to get married. To ring in your 16th birthday in style, try something downright crazy. It'll set you apart from your other friend's parties and a good time will be had by all. Does this Spark an idea?

Mardi Gras or Masquerade Party
-
To change up the appearance of your 16th birthday party, make it a masquerade party. When it comes to the masks, you can purchase them at a party store, encourage your guests to bring their own, or even decorate them together as a party activity. Encourage guests to wear formal attire such as suits and ties and evening dresses to "class up" the affair. When decorating, use bold colors often associated with Mardi Gras or masquerades such as gold, silver, green and purple. The invitations you design can also be in the shape of a mask. Though the style of Mardi Gras might suggest a string quartet or harp music, keep it current for your party and hire a DJ or play music currently on the pop charts. As a party favor, create a photo area where guests can pose for a picture in their full attire. You can then print the photo for them to take home.
Circus Party
-
If you are a fan of the circus, then construct your entire party around that theme. Hire professional jugglers, clowns, magicians, fire eaters and acrobatic performers to put on a show at your party. (Tell your vendors the age group of the party, so they perform tricks that are age appropriate and not geared toward small children.) If you really have a lot of money to spend, you can even bring in trained animals to display. Create circus-style invitations that are made up of clown faces, or the famous "big top" to hand out to your friends. Party food can include items you'd find at the circus such as peanuts, popcorn, cotton candy and hot dogs. Include carnival games such as beanbag toss, horseshoe toss, ring toss, knock-over-the-milk-cans, and darts. You can also offer small prizes for the winners of these games.

"Make Your Own Clothes" Party
-
For a truly memorable experience, and one that is just a little bit crazy, require that your guests make their own clothes out of the materials you provide at the party. You might set out paper bags, tin foil and swatches of fabric, and provide them with items to decorate the clothing such as markers, crayons, buttons, yarn or sequins. Give them needles and thread, scissors and glue so that they can affix and form their clothing. Then, the party guests must wear what they made. They can place these items over their own clothes. You can give out prizes for different categories such as "coolest," "most wearable" and "most creative" costume.
Make a Movie
-
Computers often come with video editing software already available on the machine. Purchase or borrow a video camera for the party. Then, after your guests arrive, spend an hour brainstorming about a "storyline" for the movie. It might be romance, mystery, adventure, or drama. Create a character for everyone who is at the party. Then break the party up into groups and have each go write their own scenes. After about a half hour, it's time for the cameras to roll. Film each scene in a simple manner by shooting a "master" (which is a shot of everyone in the scene), and then a close-up of each character. (Try to make the close-up about the same size frame on each person.) Then upload the video to your computer. You can edit the movie simply by starting each scene with the master and then cutting to each person as they have a line of dialogue. At the end of the party, you can burn a copy of the "movie" onto a DVD and give it to your guests.
