Attending a beauty trade school can prepare you for a career as a hirstylist.

If you're working towards a career as an automobile mechanic, building contractor, hairstylist, cosmetologist or veterinary technician, attending a trade school might be the best option for you. Trade schools teach job-specific skills to prepare you for work field. Training programs lead to certificates and diplomas and, in some cases, associate and bachelor degrees. If you are a resident of Chicago, you have many trade schools to choose from.

  1. BIR Training Center

    • BIR Training Center is a post-secondary training center accredited by the North Central Association (NCA), approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and certified by ETS as a an official TOEFL iBT Testing Center. Founded in 1993, the school offers technical programs such as Computerized Manufacturing, Health Information Technology, Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting, and Computerized Office Support. Three locations are in the Chicago metropolitan area (Devon, Wabash and Belmont) to ensure students have all the conveniences of living in a big city while receiving quality training. They also accept international students and many of their instructors are multi-lingual.

    Capri Chicago Beauty College

    • Capri Chicago Beauty College provides comprehensive hair and beauty education through a Pivot Point curriculum. The school is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. It offers a Cosmetology, Instructor and Internship Program. Graduates can work as salon operators, hairstylists, color specialists, nail technicians, skin care specialists, and celebrity designers. Located on Chicago's southwest side, the 6,356-square-foot campus includes modern classrooms and a full customer clinic. However, it does not have facilities for the handicapped. The school also offers job placement services and financial aid for qualified students.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT Technical Institute is a college system with more than 100 branches in over 30 states, with three campuses in Chicago: Oak Brook, Mount Prospect and Orland Park. Students can choose from among several departments including the School of Information Technology, the School of Electronics Technology, the School of Drafting and Design, the School of Business, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Criminal Justice. ITT also has a program called the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, which offers funding for qualified active duty men & women or veterans.

    Illinois School of Health Careers

    • The Illinois School of Health Careers (ISHC) prepares students to become valuable employees in the health care field. Offered are Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant and Patient Care Tech programs. First established in 1990, ISHC is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The school provides extensive student support in the form of assistance in CV preparation, help with job interview techniques and strategies in job searching that secures entry-level employment. The two campuses in the Chicago area are in Loop and Cumberland.
