What Are Some Fun Games to Play at a Baby Shower?
Ancient Egyptians and Greeks celebrated a woman's arrival into motherhood and performed solemn ceremonies, usually after the birth, but modern baby showers seem to have begun in the 19th or 20th century. Random History notes the shower has kept in touch with 21st-century technology, with games including ultrasound-picture identification. Does this Spark an idea?

Baby-Food Tasting
-
Baby-food tins with the labels off are impossible to tell apart. Open several and place a spoonful from each on one paper plate per guest. Dollops of various baby-food delights will adorn the plate like an artist's palette. Each guest has a writing pad to record her estimates, arrived at by careful inspection. The winner gets a small prize and acclaim for being able to remember her childhood tastes.
Candied Diapers
-
Small pieces of candy, preferably miniature bars, form the center of the candied diapers guessing game. Preparation involves melting the chocolate bars, for example, York Peppermint Patties, Reece's Cups, Milky Ways or Baby Ruths, and putting the gooey messes inside diapers. Guests must use their sight, taste, smell and touch senses, and overcome feelings of being "grossed out," to decide which candy they have in the diaper.
-
Running Pin
-
The guests learn they must not say a certain word for the duration of the shower. At the same time the hostess gives them a pin or clothes peg. Whenever a guest says the word, which might be "pregnant," "baby" or "diaper," another guest can take her pin. The guest with the most pins at the end of the shower wins.
Name Games
-
As a change of pace, guests can try to make the most words from the baby's name, if they know it. That's just one of any word-compilation games that guests will enjoy. Prizes for these and other games can be lotions, candles, scents and hand creams.
Observation
-
Baby-shower guests love to feel they are observant, and a centerpiece of mother-to-be paraphernalia gives them a perfect opportunity. After having a variety of diapers, balls and pacifiers -- about 20 items in all -- in plain view, the hostess covers them up without warning and challenges the guests to write down the items they can recall.
