The Cambridge examination TOEFL preparation course centers on group lessons. Students learn English lessons by developing the skills needed for the TOEFL test. These skills include developing reasoning, analyzing writing and correcting sentences. Students learn how to speak, read, listen and write on English topics. The average class size is eight students. Popular classes typically run for four or more hours, from June to August. These classes include conversational English and ESL creative writing.

The TOEFL iBT Preparation Course

The University of Illinois at Chicago offers the TOEFL iBT Preparation Course for students who have to take the test on the Internet. The iBT (Internet-based test) evaluates core language skills which include speaking, reading, listening and writing. Simulation exams tests at least three of these skills for each problem. The TOEFL preparatory course at UIC helps students learn test-taking strategies, techniques for building the English vocabulary and advanced grammar points. Students learn how to improve their performance under time limits.

Kaplan International offers a TOEFL Course program for students of London, Canada and selected cities across the United States. Kaplan structures English lessons in 45-minute increments, from four to 16 weeks throughout the year. Students enroll in 20 TOEFL academic English lessons conducted each week and 15 structured study lessons. The company prepares students for all four sections of the TOEFL iBT by administering simulation tests and employing test-taking strategies. Kaplan uses the TOEFL program to prepare students also for university work at English-speaking universities.
