Clothes for an Eighties Party
An '80s theme party lets you get wild and experience a different era when style was bold and hair was big. The 1980s were a memorable time for fashion, giving birth to such icons as Madonna, Debbie Gibson and Boy George. Knowing what clothes to wear to an '80s party lets you strut your stuff as if you stepped out of a time machine.

Acid-Washed Denim
-
Acid-washed jeans and denim mini skirts of the decade were usually dark indigo, but they were distressed and bleached-looking around the thighs, knees and sometimes the backside. The jeans were often skintight and tapered at the ankle. Trendy people sometimes "tight-rolled" the cuffs of their acid-washed jeans to show off their socks. Acid-washed denim skirts were often layered over neon-colored tights or stockings.
Layered Socks
-
Layered socks were all the rage in the 1980s, sometimes in mismatched colors. To achieve a layered effect, you must wear two or three pairs of socks. Each pair should be a different color, preferably neon. Layered socks were often worn over stirrup leggings, another fad of the '80s.

Leg Warmers
-
Leg warmers were a fashion statement in the 1980s and briefly came back as a fad in 2008. The image of Olivia Newton John comes to mind when some people picture leg warmers in the '80s, so it's no surprise to see them accompanied with neon spandex tights at an '80s theme party. Leg warmers are still easy to find as of 2011 in athletics shops and online.
Neon Accessories
-
Neon-colored accessories were necessities in the 1980s -- chunky neon-pink hoop earrings and glow-in-the-dark bracelets. Headbands, belts, scarves, handbags and shoes in neon tones are essential 1980s gear. One particular fad was splashing neon-colored paint on denim and other garments.
Miscellaneous
-
High-top sneakers, suspenders and parachute pants were also worn in the '80s. One famous look was the one Madonna created by wearing a corset as outerwear paired with a flouncy series of tutu-like skirts. The "Material Girl" has been mimicked in this fashion at '80s themed events ever since.
