Various companies offer credit cards especially designed for students. These cards are either low interest or prepaid. Many student credit cards offer zero percent introductory interest rates. Some offer cash-back bonuses on purchases. These features ensure that students have credit cards that are safe and secure. Many student credit cards offer low or no annual fees.

  1. Discover Student Card

    • As of 2011, Discover Student Card offers a zero percent introductory APR for the first seven months. Students also receive $20 cash back on their first purchase within three months. Discover Student Card also offers 5 percent cash back on purchases in specified categories, such as travel, department stores, gas, groceries and restaurants. Additionally, Discover does not charge students an annual fee for this card. However, students or their cosigners must have a fair or better credit rating.

    Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card

    • Citi offers college students a special card with a zero percent introductory APR for the first seven months, according to 2011 advertised rates. The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card does not require a cosigner, which may be attractive to college students with little or no credit history. For the first six months, college students can also earn 5 percent cash back on purchases at supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, convenience stores, and utilities. College students must have good credit in order to be approved.

    Journey Student Rewards from Capital One

    • Similar to many of the other student credit cards, there is no annual fee applied to the Journey Student Rewards from Capital One, as of 2011. This card has special features that help students learn the basics of personal finance. Free customizable text message and email alerts help keep students on budget. Students also receive 1 percent cash back on all purchases with an additional 25 percent on cash back earned for each month students pay their bills on time.

    Student Upside Visa Prepaid Card

    • The Student Upside Visa Prepaid Card is designed for full parental control and provides a safe and secure credit card for students. Parents can transfer funds to the student's card from their own credit card or checking account. The student can receive free direct deposits from an employer, as well as write checks. As of 2011, there is a monthly fee of $2.99 or a yearly fee of $29.95 for the Student Upside Visa Prepaid Card.
