Decorate with star fish and seashells for a beach-themed wedding.

If you're not sure what decoration theme you should have at your wedding, the bast place to start is in your heart. Think about the things that interest you and your fiance the most. Perhaps you both enjoy the beach, the Wild West, the movies, the Renaissance period, or the season you are getting married in. Use your interests to choose your decorating theme and you will have a wedding that reflects your style.

  1. Seasonal

    • Use the season your wedding is in to dictate the colors of your wedding. Seasonal flowers on the tables and arranged around the wedding and reception venue is appropriate for a spring or summer wedding. A centerpiece consisting of a cornucopia of fall vegetables or baskets of apples would be lovely for a fall wedding, along with orange and brown draping on the chairs and walls. A winter wedding could have an ice theme with blue and white depicting the cold of winter, ice sculptures placed around the room, and snowflakes or icicles hanging from the ceiling. Large white spider mums called Anastasia flowers make beautiful flower arrangements for a winter theme.

    Formal

    • Black and white makes a striking theme for a formal wedding. Incorporate interesting flowers such as chocolate cosmos and black kangaroo paw along with white flowers such as white roses, lilies, gardenias or carnations. Add white peacock feathers and gauzy fabric around the room. Crystal chandeliers and vases add opulence to the formal theme. Or place supper-club lamps on the table for an old-fashioned look. Elaborate place setting with crystal and china finish the formal look.

    Casual

    • An easy-breezy casual wedding theme is reflective of the couple who wants simplicity in their lives. Decorate with raffia, burlap or paper lanterns. Place wildflowers, sunflowers and daisies in simple containers like pitchers for the centerpieces. A simple square container of wheat grass portrays a feeling of being in a field. Small candles in simple glass cups add a hint of flickering light.

    Location

    • A location wedding theme can either be at the location, such as the beach, or you can bring the location to the wedding. If you love the beach, but are unable to have a wedding there, decorate with pink, peach and pale green. Places a container of sand with seashells on each table. Have a Hawaiian theme by decorating with a tiki theme. Hire real hula dancers to entertain. Have a Western cowboy theme by decorating with horseshoes, bandannas, rope and cacti. Use cowboy hats as containers for the flowers. Gingham tablecloths will impart a country cowboy wedding theme.
