Minority students, including Hispanic Americans, must meet certain criteria for financial assistance.

Engineering students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program may find that paying for college can be challenging. Organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation offer scholarships to minority students in hopes of diversifying fields that are underrepresented by minorities.

  1. KSEA Scholarship Program

    • The Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association, or KSEA, sponsors a scholarship for students of Korean heritage who are majoring in engineering or a related field. As of the 2010-2011 academic school year, students could receive $1,000 in scholarship funds. Students must be members of KSEA and have at least 40 credit hours completed to be eligible. During the selection process, a student's academic performance and community service will be considered.

    Gates Millennium Scholars Program

    • The Gates Millennium Scholars Program offers financial support to minority students majoring in fields such as engineering, computer science and mathematics. Students are selected based on leadership potential and community service. The selection committee also considers a student's academic achievement. Selected students who continue to meet certain criteria may be eligible to receive continued assistance. As of the 2010-2011 school year, selected students could receive up to $10,000 towards their education-related expenses.

    Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program

    • The Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program is open to minority students who are majoring in engineering and other related fields such as material science. Students must meet a 3.0 grade point average and be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program. The scholarship awards up to $10,000 to select students as of the 2010-2011 academic school year. Students must be able to demonstrate a financial need to be eligible for assistance.

    General Motors Minority Engineering and Science Scholarship

    • Minority engineering students can receive financial support through the General Motors Minority Engineering and Science Scholarship. Students must be enrolled full time to be eligible. Select students may qualify for a summer internship at one of the General Motors facilities located throughout the United States. Students may receive up to $5,000 as of the 2010-2011 school year. Scholarships are available on a limited basis.
