Baby Basket Ideas
When planning or attending a baby shower for a new mom and dad, a gift basket makes a useful and thoughtful gift. The wonderful thing about gift baskets is that not only do they look nice when presented to the new parents, the basket itself can be useful down the road for storing toys, baby books or even supplies like baby powder, shampoo, diapers or stuffed animals. Start with a tasteful basket that fits in your budget and fill it with items of your choice. Complement the wipes with a set of cloth diapers and onesies which you've decorated yourself for baby.

Homemade Baby Basket
-
One idea is to fill your gift basket with homemade items. Make homemade diaper wipes with a roll of paper towels cut in half and placed in an airtight Rubbermaid container filled with a mixture of baby oil and baby wash. Include a recipe for the wipes so mom and dad can make their own when those you've supplied run out (see Reference 1 for recipe).
Diaper Bag Basket
-
Another idea is to use a diaper bag as your "basket" and fill the diaper bag with everything mom and dad need to welcome their new baby into the world. Pack it up so it's ready to take to the hospital. Fill the bag with a "coming home outfit," a soft baby blanket that mom and dad can snuggle their little one in, travel-size shampoo and lotion for sensitive skin, a travel-size package of sensitive wipes and a few newborn-size sensitive diapers. Top it off with a few pacifiers in different styles and a little hat for baby. Include a disposable camera or, if your budget allows, a digital camera for mom and dad to snap shots at the hospital.

Baby Book Basket
-
Fill a basket with books for the new baby that she can interact with as she grows. Include soft-cloth books as well as cardboard-back books. Avoid books with thin paper sheets as they're likely to get ripped before baby can grow old enough to read and enjoy them. Include classic books like "Peter Cottontail" and "I Love You as Much" as well as familiar Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street books.
Baby Toy Basket
-
Use a small toy wagon as a twist on the traditional baby basket idea. Fill the toy wagon with toys for baby like rattles, age-appropriate toys that clip on to the baby's car seat and a few toys that the baby can use as he grows older. Select a few toys for ages six to 12 months, like sensory balls with fun textures and blocks that make animal noises when squeezed.
