Graphic Design Graduate Scholarships

A career as a graphic designer challenges you to use your creativity on a daily basis. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the need for graphic designers will increase as interactive media and web-based advertisements continue to develop. Earning a graduate degree in graphic design can help you land a rewarding position. A scholarship from your graduate school or a professional organization can reduce your tuition costs.

  1. University of Tennessee Scholarships

    • The University of Tennessee's School of Art offers more than 25 scholarships to its students. Graduate students studying graphic design are eligible for several of these monetary awards. Graphic design students can participate in the school's annual art competition, which challenges students to create an award-winning art piece. In 2011, competition winners earned a $5,000 scholarship. Students have to be taking full-time classes in order to earn this competition-based scholarship.

    Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships

    • The Worldstudio Foundation, along with the AIGA, the American Institute for Graphic Arts, awards scholarships to graduate graphic-design students as well as students who can demonstrate a financial need. Most scholarships total $2,000 or $3,000, though some applicants might receive $500 honorable mention scholarships, as of 2011. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in a full-time graphic design curriculum, and they must intend to pursue a career in the field. Financial need is a must, and minority status is a plus, though not a requirement for the award.

    Georgia State University Scholarships

    • Graduate students at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, can earn a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in graphic design. One endowed scholarship specifically for these students can help them reduce their tuition costs. The Susan Babush Memorial Scholarship Award, a scholarship in memory of a GSU graphic design student, goes to a graphic design graduate student who demonstrates artistic abilities. In addition, the student should be able to demonstrate a financial need.

    International Informatics Institute Scholarships

    • The International Informatics Institute in Brooklyn, New York, offers graphic-communications scholarships to graduate students. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and be studying for a graduate degree in graphic communications or graphic arts. They must be permanent residents of one of the five boroughs of New York City, New York counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester or Rockland, or New Jersey counties of Bergen, Essex or Union. Applicants must submit their college transcripts, GRE scores, two letters of recommendations and five work samples.
