Activities About Being Children of God

Biblical scripture is filled with timeless stories and lessons about what it means to be children of God. Nevertheless, sometimes children and families would like to celebrate this message in a more active, participatory way. Simple activities make it easy to learn about, express and share in the many ways and joys of being children of God with friends, family and neighbors.

  1. Games

    • With religious games, children and families can learn and explore what it means to be children of God through game content as well as the act of participating in a fun, spiritual activity together. The Fruit of the Spirit Bible card game is similar to Crazy 8s, but features adoring pictures of angels and scripture from Galatians 5:22, 23 that talks about goodness and God's love. The Adventures in Odyssey and the Sword of the Spirit Interactive Game on CD-ROM also celebrates the importance of living as children of God in his love. The game centers on the Gauntlet of Virtues---nine tests of important character traits such as honesty, kindness and patience. While playing, encourage children to make connections between these virtues, the virtues of the Father, and how Christian virtue helps God's children have a closer relationship with him.

    Music and Movies

    • Music and movies help kids learn about and enjoy being children of God though both auditory and visual senses. Gospel CDs for kids are available through many major online sellers, as are many movies and cartoons that focus on the message of being children of God. Dex Davis is a popular cartoon character featured in a Christian series about praising the Lord and doing his will throughout kids' daily lives. In addition to being popular among children, parents and educators have also praised the animated "Dex Davis: Child of God!" series for its powerful messages of faith, love and virtue in today's world.

    Crafts

    • Crafts about being children of God are virtually limitless. Many spiritual websites for kids have printable coloring pages that depict heavenly images and Christian life. Other sites feature craft ideas for school, home or church. Of course, combining crafts with good deeds allows kids to act as children of God as they work together to deliver messages of God's love. One fun craft is to use Popsicle sticks, colored tissue paper, markers, string, and school glue to create framed, stained glass "windows" that incorporate a message of God's love. Kids can then give these crafts as gifts to church members, Sunday school classmates or even donate them to the poor or elderly.

    Activity and Story Books

    • Many religious bookstores sell storybooks that take important messages about being children of God from the Bible, and retell the story in a way easy for today's kids to understand. In addition, Christian activity books can also be purchased at most religious bookstores and online. Activity books make great ways to celebrate and reinforce the values of Christianity at home, in school or even on the go. Activity books about being children of God are not only fun, they also teach important lessons about relationships with God and fellow brothers and sisters of Christianity.
