Ways to Tell the Sex of a Baby Without Ultrasounds
Opting out of an ultrasound, whether it's insurance-related or because of a personal reason, doesn't change the fact that you still might be curious about your baby's gender. Without an ultrasound, which is the most reliable and accurate measure of determining your baby's gender, you can attempt to determine the sex of your baby through different folklore methods. However, keep in mind that such methods are not scientifically proven nor are they very accurate.

Your Appearance While Pregnant
-
Looking in the mirror might be a good indicator of whether you are having a boy or a girl. According to popular folklore, those who carry their babies low and in the front of the their stomachs and don't put on much weight aside from the baby are often very likely carrying a boy. On the other hand, women who put on weight all over and carry their baby high in their abdomen often have girls. Those who appear healthy and feel attractive are generally said to be carrying a boy, as the old wives' tale states that girls tend to steal their mother's beauty.
Your Baby's Heart Rate
-
Watching and recording your baby's heart rate over the course of your pregnancy at each prenatal appointment is said to be a good way to determine your baby's sex. According to one of the oldest wives' tales, babies who have a heart rate of 140 beats per minute or higher at full term, that being 37 weeks pregnant, typically tend to be girls. On the other hand, babies who have a heart rate below 140 beats per minute tend to be boys.

Take An At-Home Test
-
Another way to attempt to determine the sex of your baby without an ultrasound is through taking an at-home gender predictor test kit. These tests work similar to pregnancy tests and can be taken as early as 10 weeks into your pregnancy. The test is said to work by mixing your early morning urine with certain chemicals, resulting in a hormonal reaction that claims to reveal whether your baby is a boy or a girl.
Look to Your Cravings
-
Eating is a major part of pregnancy, and according to folklore, it might be a way to determine your baby's sex. Analyzing your cravings is one way to attempt to determine the gender of your baby. If, throughout the course of your pregnancy, you constantly crave sweet foods such as chocolate and baked items, you might be having a girl. On the other hand, those who crave savory, sour foods are often those who have boys.
