Portable Cribs for Babies That Weigh Twenty Pounds or More

A portable crib gives babies a safe place to sleep on the go.

Taking a baby along while you travel requires you to bring more items with you than you would travelling alone or with an older child. Babies cannot sleep in a regular bed and some places that you may be going will not have a crib for your baby. Or you may be uncomfortable using the cribs provided by hotels. Many of the travel cribs parents can buy accommodate babies of all sizes.

  1. Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light

    • Baby Bjorn makes a travel crib that is lightweight and can accommodate children up to the age of 3 years. It features a wide base with mesh sides and inward slanting sides to create a cozier feel for the baby. The included mattress is soft. Both the mattress cover and fabric sides of the travel crib are machine washable. The crib should not be used after a child is able to climb out or once he reaches 35 inches tall.

Dream On Me 2-in-1 Portable Folding Crib

    • The 2-in-1 portable folding crib by Dream On Me looks similar to a regular crib, but it folds for portability and is about 20 inches shorter than a standard crib. This crib can only be used indoors. The 2-in-1 portable crib weighs just 11 pounds and comes with a carrying case for travel convenience. The side is stationary and does not drop down. The kit includes an A1 size mattress, mattress cover and all tools required for assembly. The crib accommodates babies up to 35 pounds.

    Graco Travel Lite Crib

    • Weight just less than 20 pounds, the Graco Travel Lite Crib is 20 percent smaller in dimension than the Pack and Play models. It features a bassinet for babies weighing less than 15 pounds, but the actual crib can accommodate babies weighing more. Several different designs are available to choose from. The carry bag can be machine washed, but the rest of the unit can only be surface washed. The crib is not recommended for use by children who can climb out or are taller than 3 feet.

    Kidco PeaPod

    • The PeaPod comes in several different styles and sizes to accommodate infants up to young children. The mattress is inflatable, giving the baby a soft spot to lay on and keeping them off the floor. A mesh panel zips closed to keep the baby safely inside the pod. Each unit folds easily into a carrying case for easy travel. These cribs are perfect for outdoor use, keeping the sun and UV rays off of the baby and keeping the bugs out as well.

    Phil & Teds Traveller

    • The Phil & Teds company offers the Traveller portable crib. It is a small, lightweight crib that does not require a mattress. It folds easily into its storage bag and weighs only 7 pounds. A UV-protectant cover can be purchased to keep out the sun's rays when using the crib outdoors. The side opens with a zippered flap to allow easy access to the baby. The crib can accommodate children up to 3 years of age.

    Pack 'N Plays

    • While they are not always classified as portable cribs, several baby companies make Pack 'N Plays that can be used as cribs and are portable. They offer a safe place for baby to play and to sleep and can accommodate children up to 3 years. They come in a variety of styles and sizes to best fit your needs. Each one folds easily and comes with a case to protect it and make it easier to carry. Sheets are available to cover the mattress in the bottom.
