Lawn Trimmer Gas Vs. Electric
Before purchasing a trimmer to cut the weeds in your lawn, you'll want to consider how large your trimming area will be, how thick your weeds are and how much power you'll need to finish the job. Gas and electric trimmers both have positives and negatives and are better suited to different jobs. Does this Spark an idea?

Engines and Operating Times
-
The operating time of a gas trimmer is as long as the amount of fuel you have to put in the tank. Battery-powered trimmers have a limited life span before you need to plug the battery in, and electric trimmers need an outlet to run off. However, electric trimmers make less noise than a gas-powered engine. Electric trimmers also do not give off fumes and are more environmentally friendly.
Operating Range
-
Gas-powered trimmers can go anywhere you can and aren't limited by a charging station or a power source. The engine power of gas trimmers will far exceed almost every electric trimmer. But with more power comes more weight, so consider how long can you hold the trimmer before you get tired. You'll also need to consider where you need to trim and how long it will take you.

Costs
-
Most gas-powered trimmers will cost more upfront, but will generally, if cared for properly, have a life that far exceeds an electric trimmer. The engine on a gas-powered trimmer can run for long, hard hours without having many problems. While cheaper to purchase, electric trimmers can't take a lot of heavy work and are intended for lighter trimming and smaller weeds. Maintenance and repair costs for gas trimmers run slightly higher than for electric because you'll have the trimmer for much longer; with a cheap electric, you can just buy a new one rather than fix the old one. You'll also need to consider that gas trimmers require an oil and fuel mixture, which may be difficult to get in more remote areas.
Maintenance and Repair
-
Repairs on an electric trimmer can be more difficult and exceed the cost of a replacement trimmer. Repairs on a gas-powered two or four-cycle engine can be done by almost any determined homeowner with a few tools and knowledge. Gas engines are designed to be simple, and most minor repairs are inexpensive and will keep the trimmer running for years to come.
