Skills you learn outside the classroom may turn to profitable business ideas.

An impromptu trip to Cancun for spring break may sound like a great idea, until you realize that you just don't have the cash on hand for the excursion. You may be able to make a quick profit by using skills and supplies that you already have. In fact, you may have so much success that your personal fundraiser may spark an entrepreneurial spirit within you.

  1. Sell Your Stuff

    • One of the fastest ways to accumulate quick cash is by selling your things. Post your old MP3 player, digital camera or designer purse online and it may be snapped up within a few hours -- and definitely for more cash than you would get at a garage sale. Be careful when dealing with online transactions. If you're delivering the item personally rather than by mail, always go with a buddy and meet in a public place.

    Get Crafty

    • For those who have a talent for making jewelry, knitting or other crafts, selling online and at craft fairs may put some padding in the old wallet. Once you list your crafts online, market your new online boutique by letting everyone know about it through emails and conversations. Take high-quality photographs and write detailed descriptions to capture the interest of shoppers.

    Car Wash

    • When your money-making scheme involves your friends as well, consider holding an old fashioned car wash. Get out your buckets, sponges and polish if you're a car aficionado who is willing to provide detailing for customers. Customers pay professional detailers around $80 to $100 for detailing. Charge half the price and do just as good a job and you may be on your way to repeat business.

    Handiwork

    • College dorms are full of furniture that comes in flat boxes. Those who are less talented with screwdrivers, drills and hammers will be happy to pay someone to make that furniture three-dimensional. This money-making idea is particularly useful at the beginning of the school year, when people are moving in and buying new furniture. However, your handiwork also may be useful throughout the year within the community. Ask your local grocery store and coffee shop if you may hang up fliers for your services.
