Housewarming Party Menu Ideas
You've moved into a new residence and are excited about hosting a housewarming party. The event does not have to be as difficult as moving all your boxes, but does take some preparation. Take some time to plan the party and menu. The last thing you want is having your guests eating on cardboard boxes. Does this Spark an idea?

Hors d'ourves
-
Get your guests to mingle during the party and serve hors d'ouvres. Finger foods that can sit at room temperature are ideal because you can prepare them ahead of time. You also can set out cold or hot items which can be chilled or properly heated. Serve foods like an antipasto platter with Italian meats ad cheeses or a smoked salmon platter with mini bagels, lox, cream cheese and toppings. Small, bite-size dessert pieces, like brownie bits, cookies and mini muffins, also work. Slices of fruit, vegetables and crackers are also easy finger foods.
Comfort Food
-
Serve comforting home-style food at your housewarming party or have your guests bring their favorite comfort food. Set up the dining room table in your new home with nice plates, silverware, and glasses for a sit down meal. Serve homemade main dishes like macaroni and cheese, chicken pot pie or pot roast. Side dishes could include mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, homemade grits or a rice dish. Desserts could include cobblers, bread pudding, pie or cake.

Buffet Style
-
Have your guests bring a buffet item rather than a traditional housewarming gift. Ask each guest to write out the recipe for the food and give it to you as a gift. Plan ahead for the buffet style party and ask your guests to R.S.V.P. well ahead of time with the top three items they would like to bring. Then, look over each item and let them know which item would work best at the party. This way, you don't have guests bringing five dessert dishes and no main course. Write out a menu for the buffet and even prepare place cards for each buffet item to make it look more like a catered event.
Drinks
-
Set up a bar at the kitchen counter if you don't have a built-in bar in the house. Set out enough plastic cups, ice and drinks for all guests. Place items like 2-liter soft drinks, wine and beer in the refrigerator so they'll stay cold. Have enough ice on hand for guests as well. Come up with a signature drink of the evening like mojitos, sangria, martinis or margaritas and make a large batch of it. Or, have your guests make their own drinks by providing basic alcohol like vodka, tequila, gin and rum as well as basic mixes.
