One of the major ways that alcohol can affect a relationship is financially. Alcohol is an expensive item to buy, and social activities associated with drinking are also very expensive. If someone is abusing alcohol, this habit adds up financially and is going to cause strain on one's wallet.When someone spends all their money on alcohol, it causes unnecessary tension, especially if the couple is sharing a bank account.

It lowers inhibitions, which makes a person more likely to act differently than they normally would, causing conflicts.
