Quick & Easy School Hair Ideas
Whether you're going into second grade or sophomore year of college, styling your hair can be a creative outlet, a practical chore or a technical challenge. If you're styling the hair of your young daughter, a secure hairstyle is a must for running and playing. Older girls styling their hair themselves can afford more delicate styles that look amazing because they don't have to withstand three rounds of tag on the playground. Does this Spark an idea?

Half-Ponytail
-
The half-ponytail is soft and feminine. It also keeps hair off the face and out of the eyes. Start by brushing the hair straight back and away from the scalp. Use the pointy end of a fine-toothed comb and make a horizontal part starting just above the ear and continuing around the head. Pull the top half of the hair into a pony tail. Hold the style with a hair elastic for more security or a barrette for a decorative flair.
Braided Pigtails
-
Braided pigtails are an especially useful style for little girls with long hair. Start by parting the hair vertically down the center of the scalp and pull both sides into a ponytail. For less facial interference, angle the ponytail over the neck instead of over the ear. Secure each side with a hair elastic and braid each ponytail. Secure the end of each braid with another hair elastic. Smooth a squirt of hairspray into the sides of the head if the hair is fine and wispy.

Headband and Braid Combination
-
A headband and braid combo is a useful style for someone with layers or longer bangs that can't fit into a standard braid. Place each end of the headband behind one ear and push upward until it arches across the top of the head. Pull the remainder of the hair back and weave it into a low braid at the nape of the neck. Secure the braid with a hair elastic and a ribbon.
Flip-through Ponytail
-
The flip-through ponytail is an elegant hairstyle that won't loosen or fall out while running. Pull the hair into a ponytail but secure the elastic band two inches away from the scalp to create a temporarily loose and floppy ponytail. Stick the pointy end of a fine toothed comb into the space between the elastic and the scalp. Use your fingers to flip the pony tail up and through the space created by the comb handle. Pass all of the hair through this same route until the ponytail you have entirely flipped it through. Push the elastic closer to the scalp if the style seems too loose.
