Wedding Wishes & Toasts

Wedding Wishes & Toasts thumbnail
Wedding toasts should have the personality of the person giving the toast.

Wedding wishes can be given by anyone at the wedding. Written in the wedding card, or even stand up and say a few words yourself. Wedding toasts are traditionally given by the maid of honor, the best man and the parents of the bride and groom. Toasts can be funny, serious or a combination of both. Including when the bride and groom met, where the proposal was or if they have nicknames into the toast will make it more personable.

  1. Funny Wedding Toasts

    • Funny wedding toasts can be hard to write. One doesn't want to have too many jokes and on the other side, don't want it to be too sentimental. Keep in mind if it's not a story that you would tell your grandparents or parents then, it should probably be kept out. Here's an examples of funny toast excerpt: Since meeting (bride), it's been a pleasant sight to watch (groom) actually in the kitchen getting his hands dirty! That's not the only thing... (groom) started doing dishes and doing his own laundry (instead of paying someone). (bride), thank you for helping him out!

    Giving Thanks and Poem Toasts

    • Another kind of toast is one that gives thanks to important peole that helped put the wedding together. Thank people like the family member that made the wedding cake, or made the dress. Some weddings the grandmother may have put a cookie tray together or maybe did some of the cooking. Do research with the bride and groom to see who did what for the special day.

There also are a lot of wedding poems from which to use for toasts. Here's an example of a Irish poem:

May you both live as long as you want and, never want as long as you live. Never above you. Never below you. Always beside you. May your Love be modern enough to survive the times and old fashioned enough to last forever.

    Sentimental Toasts and Wishes

    • Sentimental toasts can sometimes be too saccharine. You don't want guests crying into their appetizers so, keep it light or end with something funny to lighten the mood. Here is a sentimental toast:

It is said that a man is not truly whole until he is joined with a woman in love. I have known (groom's name) a long time and thought he was a whole man until I saw him with (bride's name). Then, I understood the meaning of love. Together, they are more than the sum of their parts and they will continue to grow in unity. I am proud to have seen them come together in their love and wish them a lifetime of happiness.

    General Wedding Wishes

    • Wedding wishes are put in greeting cards and said as you try to get the couple to kiss. Keep them simple but, heartwarming. Here are some wedding wishes examples:

      "To the bride and groom---

May your love be as endless

as the circle of your wedding rings."

      "To the new husband,

      to the new wife,

      to your shared happiness

      in your new life."

      "On your wedding day,

      I celebrate two wonderful people

      I care about,

as well as the special couple

      you've become!"
