Grants for culinary education can help make a student's dreams of working as a chef a reality.

There are an array of educational grants and scholarships available to students who wish to pursue culinary training and eventually find work as a chef. Several culinary scholarships may be applied for even before a student graduates from high school. These culinary grants allow a prospective student to secure necessary financial aid before even setting foot on a college campus.

  1. American Academy of Chefs High School Scholarship

    • The American Academy of Chefs is one institution that offers educational grants to high school students across the nation. The American Academy of Chefs High School Scholarship is awarded in amounts that vary each year based on the availability of funds. An applicant must be eligible to graduate the year in which he applies for the scholarship, and must also be admitted into a postsecondary culinary arts program. Applicants with a cumulative high school grade point average of less than 2.5 will not be considered. The deadline for application is March 31.

The Art Institutes Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship

    • The Art Institutes offer educational grant money to applicants still in high school through the Best Teen Chef Culinary Scholarship. Through this program, high school students compete to win $2,000 toward tuition at a culinary school of their choice. An applicant must have a grade point average of 2.0 or above to be eligible. Entry forms must be received on each year's established date in February to be considered. In addition to submitting an entry form and high school transcript, a prospective applicant must also submit a 250-word essay addressing why he aspires to the culinary arts, as well as a notebook that includes recipes for a two-course meal.

    James Beard Foundation Scholarships

    • The James Beard Foundation offers culinary scholarships for which students still in high school are eligible to apply. To be eligible, a student must be a high school senior who is eligible to graduate. Students who plan to enroll in a postsecondary culinary program, whether on a full-time or part-time basis, are eligible to apply. Preferential consideration may be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. All scholarship applications must be received by the established date in mid-May to be eligible for consideration.
