Choose bright, cheerful flowers when creating your own get-well arrangement for a child.

Flowers are a nice surprise gift for children who are not feeling well. Although a traditional bouquet of pretty flowers will probably be welcome by most kids, a more creative or cute arrangement--whether real or fake--can really bring a smile to a child that has an injury or an illness.

  1. Dog Flower Arrangement

    • If the sick child you are buying flowers for is an animal lover, take the time to find a florist that can create an arrangement in the shape of a dog, cat or other animal. It will delight and surprise the recipient and bring a smile to the face of anyone else who sees it, as well. The arrangements, which are usually created from ordinary carnations and a few accessories for the eyes, nose and other features, usually cost about the same as more ordinary flower designs.

    Flowers with Stuffed Animals

    • Look for a get-well arrangement from a florist that incorporates a cute stuffed animal, such as a teddy bear dressed up in a doctor's outfit. If you want to make your own arrangement, choose sunny, happy flowers such as daisies or sunflowers, and then find a stuffed animal that will have a special meaning to the recipient. For instance, purchase a certain brand of stuffed animal if it is one that the child collects. Another option is to add a stuffed animal to make a pun. For instance, pick a stuffed whale and add a card that says, "Get Whale Soon."

    Artificial Flowers

    • If a child or family member suffers from allergies or if the the child is in a hospital ward that discourages flowers, but you still want to cheer her up with a pretty arrangement, consider giving her artificial flowers or plants. Fake flowers can rival their real cousins in beauty, but have several advantages. First, faux flowers will be easier to transport from a hospital since they don't need water, and second, they don't require any extra care, won't wilt or make a mess with dropped leaves or petals.

    Flowers for a Boy

    • Brighten the room of a boy suffering an illness or injury with an flower arrangement that boasts a bit of masculine influence. Some florists offer arrangements in sports-related vases--for example, ones shaped like baseballs--or they might add Mylar balloons in shapes that a boy would like to their creations. If you want to create your own arrangement for a boy, consider placing a basket of flowers into the bed of a large toy dump truck or pickup truck.
