Lincoln is the capital of Nebraska and home to the largest university campus in the state, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a college town and state capital, this city offers cultural institutions -- including Lincoln Children's Museum and the International Quilt Study Center -- as well as a variety of dining options, including Italian restaurants. Several Italian eateries in Lincoln are family-owned and provide locations throughout the city. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Piezano's

    • Founded in 1979, Piezano's is a local, family-friendly pizzeria with a casual atmosphere. Located on South Street, less than five minutes from Antelope Park, Piezano's specialty pizzas include potato pizza -- which features potato slices and onions -- and the pizza primo, a pie with all the toppings the restaurant offers. Other menu items include the "Calzonos" -- the restaurant's take on a calzone with three toppings -- and meatball sandwich. The restaurant provides take-out and delivery services.

    Vincenzo's Italian Ristorante

    • Vincenzo's is in downtown Lincoln, less than a 10-minute walk from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Lincoln Amtrak station is also a short walk from the restaurant. Italian entrees include the salmon piccata and chicken soto. The restaurant's St. Louis-style pizza is a 10-inch pizza pie with thin crust; selections include cheese pizza and Italian -- a combination of pepperoni, sausage, red peppers and Provel cheese. Vincenzo's has a relaxed ambiance and has been featured in Omaha Magazine and the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper.

    Grisanti's

    • Located on O Street, Grisanti's is in eastern Lincoln, approximately five minutes from the National Museum of Roller Skating. This restaurant has a casual atmosphere and features three dining rooms with different themes, including Venice Courtyard, Tuscan Square and Hilltop Terrace. The dining rooms have Old World Italy features, including arched doorways and murals of their respective locations on the wall. Dinner entrees include baked shrimp ziti, braised osso bucco and manicotti marinara.

    The Old Spaghetti Works

    • The Old Spaghetti Works sits on the southern border of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's campus. This casual restaurant is in one of the city's oldest buildings, constructed in 1914. The dining room features early 20th century décor, including antique lamps and a Ford Model-T truck, which is used as the restaurant's salad bar. The restaurant's bi-level party room is available for banquets and receptions. Menu items include grilled chicken Alfredo and a lasagna feast. Old Spaghetti Works also offers all-you-can-eat pasta meals.

    DaVinci's

    • Davinci's is a family-owned restaurant chain with five locations throughout Lincoln. Each location has a casual atmosphere and the restaurant chain has been featured in Pizza Today Magazine. Pizza pie selections include the Mona Lisa -- which features hamburger, pepperoni and sausage toppings -- and the barbecue chicken gourmet. The Davinci's location at 11th Street and Lincoln has two private dining rooms for parties of 25; both rooms can be combined to accommodate up 50 guests.
