Teen Updo Hairstyles
Updos add sophistication to any teen girl's look and can be worn casually or formally. To create most updos, teens need longer hair, which can be achieved by adding hair extensions if your hair is not at least shoulder-length. However, teens can create elegant updos with shorter hair as well. Furthermore, teens can enhance their updos with headbands or braids, or keep it simple with a lower bun. Does this Spark an idea?

Braids
-
Change a classic ponytail into an elegant updo by adding a braid to your look. Part a section about an inch wide, going across your head from right to left. Braid the hair you have sectioned off into a medium-sized french braid, going either toward the right or the left of your hear. Use a bobby pin the color of your hair to secure the braid. Brush your remaining hair back so that it is slick, and create a ponytail in the middle of your head using a ponytail holder that is the color of your hair. Add hairspray or gel for a firmer hold.
Headbands
-
Create a fancier look with a medium to thick headband. Create a medium-height "poof" with your hair by parting your hair from right to left in the middle of your head. Take the top half and twist it, pushing your hair upwards as you do this to create the poof. Secure this section with a hair clip. Take the bottom half of your hair and create a ponytail using the hair that falls from your poof. Create a bun and twist if you want to make a stronger statement than just a regular ponytail. Use a headband to complete the look and add elegance to your updo.

Low Bun
-
A low side bun is a simple yet chic style that you can wear in the day or night. To create this look, create a side part on either side of your head. If you make a part of the right side of your head, for example, the majority of your hair will flow to the left. If you make a part of the left side, your hair will go to the right. Brush your hair in the appropriate directions on both sides of the part and secure with a ponytail holder. The ponytail you use to make your bun should align with the location of your part on your head. Make a bun by twisting the hair around itself and secure with a bobby pin. Add a flower in your bun for an added touch.
Curls
-
Curls make for a very formal updo style and can be used in a number of ways. If you'd like to use curls in your updo, curl your hair using a small-barreled curling iron to produce tighter curls. Be sure to use hairspray to maintain your curls throughout the night. You may also choose to use roller rods to roll your hair with overnight to produce spiral curls. Create a half-up, half-down look or a tight ponytail, leaving curly tendrils to drop around your face.
