Places to Make Friends
Friendship is a human necessity. People need people to talk to, confide in and share life's special events. Making friends, however, can be a challenging task for those who have moved to a new city, started a new school or are afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Fortunately, you don't have to go out of your way to find friends. You can foster new friendships while doing some of your regular activities.

School or Work
-
Most people spend the majority of the day at work or school. Begin the quest for new friendships with the people in your immediate vicinity. Befriend the new girl in the class or offer to take the new assistant out to lunch. Host a game night and invite your coworkers. You might be surprised to discover that you have more in common than your 9 to 5. Taking a class is another way to connect with other people with similar interests. Take an art or cooking class at your local community college. Be open to exchanging contact information with people in the class.
Social Events
-
Another great way to make friends is by attending social events. Take the opportunity to attend parties, happy hours and group dinners where there will be plenty of new people for you to meet. Allow your friends to introduce you to the people you do not know. If you don't have any friends at the event, don't be afraid to circulate the room and introduce yourself.

Professional Or Social Organization Meetings
-
Joining a professional networking organization or a social group such as a fraternity or a sorority offers tremendous opportunity to meet and connect with new people. Attend regular meetings, join a planning committee and go to the organization's events. Being involved will keep you surrounded by like-minded people with similar goals and interests. Shared interests makes making friends easier.
Church
-
For the spiritually inclined, church offers wonderful opportunities for fellowship and making friends. Attending worship services regularly and getting involved with church ministries such as the singles' ministry, choir or usher board increases your chances of forming close connections with other members of the congregation. Many churches offer events such as mixers and field trips for church members to get to know each other outside of church.
