Celebrate your child's graduation with a graduation party.

Graduating from high school and college are two milestones that should be celebrated. When it comes to invitations, most schools will offer invitation packages along with the cap, gown, graduation tickets and thank you notes. But if you're looking to save a little money, you can quickly and easily make the invitations yourself.

  1. Blank Invitations

    • Create quick and easy invitations using blank invitations. Visit an arts and crafts store, office supply store or a local box store. You'll find dozens of blank invitations in the greeting card or wedding aisles. These invitations will certainly not break the bank and will come with instructions. Type up your invitation on your computer, place the invitations in the printer and press "Print" to create your simple invites.

    Cardstock and Vellum Paper Invitation

    • Cardstock and vellum paper will create easy invitations that give you a lot of room for creativity. Select any cardstock that you like or in the school colors. Then, purchase vellum paper that compliments the color of the cardstock. If you have selected a printed cardstock, select solid-colored vellum paper; and if you've selected a solid-colored cardstock, you may want printed vellum paper. Type your invitation on the vellum paper, and print your invitations out. Then, place one sheet of vellum paper directly on top of one sheet of cardstock; punch two holes, side-by-side, through both the vellum paper and cardstock. Thread a ribbon through the holes to hold the vellum paper and cardstock together.

    Computer-Made Invitation

    • Create professional-looking invitations right from your own computer. Open Microsoft Word or another text document on your computer. Type the front of the invitation on the new document sheet, changing the font, font size and font color accordingly. The front of the invitation should be written on the top half of the paper, centered. Print out the invitations. Then, write your invitation message in a separate document, changing the font, font size and font color accordingly. The message of the invitation should be written on the bottom half of the paper, centered. Place the invitations back into your printer, but place them in the printer so the front of the invites are facing up. This way, when the message is printed out it will be printed on the backside of the invitation. Fold the the invitation in half so the front of the card is on the outside and the message is revealed when the card is opened. For best results, print the invitations on cardstock or resume paper.

    Hand-Written Invitations

    • Purchase a calligraphy kit from an arts and crafts store. These kits are easy to use and will teach you how to properly write in calligraphy. After practicing a few times, hand write your invitations on cardstock or resume paper. You can even purchase paper or scrolls that are meant to look "old," which will accent the calligraphy writing. If making a scroll, consider rolling each scroll up and tying a ribbon around them to keep them in place.
