Topeka, Kansas is located in the north east part of the state of Kansas and is the state's capital city. As of 2009, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the population of Topeka to be at 124,331, and currently there are three major school districts in the area in addition to private schools and schools not associated with a district. Of these schools, 35 serve at least some middle school-level students.

Middle Schools in the Seaman School System

The Seaman School District is the largest school district in Topeka, and ten of its schools serve some middle school students.
Eight of these schools only serve the sixth grade (of the three middle school grades from sixth to eighth) and otherwise serve elementary level students. In the 66618 zip code are the Elmont Elementary School, which serves 192 students, and West Indianola Elementary School, which serves 242 students. The Topeka Public Schools system is the second largest in the city and has seven schools that serve middle school students.

There are four middle schools in the Auburn Washburn School System, three of which serve only the sixth grade and elementary students and one of which serves the seventh and eighth grades.

Shawnee Heights Elementary School is the sole public school in the Topeka area that is not affiliated with one of the two major school districts.
