Preschool Bible Story Activities

When you decide to introduce your preschool child to the Bible, you will have to simplify the stories so the child understands their meaning. Otherwise, he might become bored and form a dislike of reading the Bible. One way to make it more interesting is to use activities related to the stories you are telling.

  1. Illustrated Books

    • The Bible is very complex, and its words and ideas can be very difficult for a preschooler to understand, even though you are trying to explain it. A better approach is to read an illustrated Bible storybook to your preschooler. This book will provide pictures to accompany the stories, and will simplify the stories so the child will understand.

    Short Plays

    • Another way to teach you preschooler about the Bible is to create a short play for her to act out with you or others. This could be a simple one, like the story of the good Samaritan helping the stranger, or it could be more involved, like the story of Noah. For the latter, you would need props, such as animals (toys will do). You can make an ark out of a cardboard box.

    Drawings

    • Children love to draw, so give them crayons and paper and let them draw a Bible scene. This can be a good way to draw them into Bible stories. For example, they might draw the story of Noah, including the ark (show them a picture of it) and the animals going in two by two.

    Games

    • Purchase some game boards that have a biblical theme. Several companies and sites offer such games for sale or for free (see Resources section). These games can help your child feel a part of the biblical story that the game is about.
