Engineering conferences enable networking opportunities among professors, students, and industry professionals.

Scientific conferences sponsored by engineering colleges in conjunction with other professional organizations provide a forum where students and professionals in the field can share information about emerging developments. Important conferences in 2011 are being planned in the areas of biomedical engineering, computer engineering, nuclear energy, oceanography and engineering education.

  1. Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference (SBEC)

    • The Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference (SBEC) is a three-day event organized by the bioengineering department of the University of Texas at Arlington, which will host it in 2011. Topics covered include bioinstrumentation, cell mechanics, and medical robots. In recent years, this conference has taken place in various cities across the southern United States, including Miami, Washington, and Clemson, South Carolina.

International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)

    • Associated with Ain Shams University in Egypt, the International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES) focuses on computer engineering, computer architecture, network/mobile security, and quantum computing. The aim is to gather research from academe and industry to foster developments and advance the field. This conference takes place in Ain Shams Guest House, Cairo, Egypt.

International Conference on Emerging Nuclear Energy Systems (ICENES)

    • The four-day International Conference on Emerging Nuclear Energy Systems (ICENES) is a forum for developing and promoting common ground in advancing nuclear energy systems. Backed by the American Nuclear Society (ANS), the conference takes place in San Francisco. Among the sponsors of this event are the University of California's (UC) campuses, UCB (Berkeley) and UCLA (Los Angeles). Focusing on fusion and fission systems, ICENES reviews international developments, evolutionary concepts and licensing regulations.

International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE)

    • The Texas-based American Society Of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) organizes the annual International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE). Many engineering colleges have on-campus ASME chapters that participate in this conference, such as the University of Michigan, Penn State, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The purpose of OMAE is to promote technological progress and international cooperation around ocean, offshore and arctic engineering as well as to address the safety, environmental and economic issues of the industry. This four-day event takes place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2011.

American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE)

    • The three-day conference of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) aims to advance all disciplines of engineering. Student chapters of the ASEE can be found at engineering colleges across the nation, such as Tufts University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The organization supports students via workshops, grants, and scholarships. In 2011, the conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
