Full Time National Guard Pay & Benefits
The National Guard is a branch of the military that can be deployed in national and international events. National Guard troops can serve in combat zones or can be used to clean up environmental disasters. Pay depends upon where the solider is serving, as well as how long he has been in the service.

Enlistment Bonuses

Extra bonus money is available for those who join the National Guard and sign up for certain specialized positions like Intelligence Analyst. The amount varies from state to state, but as of 2011 some specialized jobs offered a $5,000 sign-up bonus.
Pay Scale

There is no standard pay scale. Like other branches of the military, it depends on rank. For example, the lowest rank was an E-1 and the monthly active duty pay as of 2011 ranged from $1,357 to $1,467. The highest enlisted rank was an E-9 and the pay ranged from $4,635 to $7,196, depending upon years served. In addition, Guard members with dependents will get higher pay.

National Guard soldiers can fly at no charge on military planes, depending upon availability, anywhere in the continental United States, as well as Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Guard members can shop at military installations that offer tax-free discounted prices. Health care can also be purchased at a reduced cost.
Combat Pay

National Guard members on active duty serving in designated combat zones receive additional pay. Some members will receive separation pay, and all personnel operating in a combat zone receive hostile fire and hardship pay. Enlisted personnel and warrant officers also have their pay designated tax-exempt while operating in a combat theater. Officer pay is tax-exempt up to $7,611.
Drill Pay

Members who complete a full-time tour of duty can remain in the National Guard and collect drill pay. Each month, the guard member must spend one weekend on duty. Depending on rank and years of service, the guard member can earn anywhere from $182 to $959 for those two days on duty.
