Rec Room Design Samples for Kids
A rec room or a playroom is the perfect space for your child to just be a child. You can customize the room to your child's personality and likes by adding colors and items that she enjoys. When your child sees the playroom for the first time, her face will light up and many adventures will be had within those walls. Does this Spark an idea?

Nature
-
Nature encompasses a variety of designs you can place in your child's rec room. Give the room an African safari feel by painting giraffes, elephants and lions on the walls. You can also build a safari truck for them to play in. You can make the room feel like a forest by hanging some leafy camouflage netting across the ceiling, creating the illusion of forest tree leaves. Paint the walls brown and place little, fake trees in corners of the room. To add a touch of whimsy, place some over-sized, plastic or plush red-capped mushrooms on the floor.
Girly
-
If you have a daughter, she might be more inclined to a girl-themed rec room. It depends on what type of girl things she is into. Painting the walls pink or purple is an excellent beginning. If being a princess is her dream, start there. You can find some flowing, canopy drapes and hang them from the ceiling. If you have a princess style chair, let the drapes surround the chair. She will feel like she's sitting on her own, private throne. Maybe she likes horses. You can buy a multitude of stuffed horses to place in her room. To add an extra bit of fantasy, you can also buy stuffed unicorns. Unicorns are all about magic, so make it as magical as possible by adding glittery and sparkly details.

Boyish
-
If you have a son, he would be more inclined to a rec room that caters to his interests. Boys have a tendency to be interested in sports and vehicles. For the sports lover, paint the walls in correspondence with the colors of his favorite sports teams. Place a children's basketball hoop in the room. You can even paint the floor to resemble a basketball court. Put a Foosball table in the room and other sports objects. For the vehicle lover, you can hang airplanes from the ceiling. Paint a race track on the floor or going around the room on the walls. You can place a couch that looks like a car in the room, as well as numerous car, tractor, boat and airplane toys. This room would be the perfect spot for him to play with his remote control planes and cars.
Fit for Teens
-
Rec rooms do not have to be limited to young children. If you have teenagers, you can make the rec room their haven, the place where they can go to escape from the drudgery of school and just be themselves. Transforming a room into a teenage rec room is more expensive, since their tastes are more developed than a younger child's. Electronics are the way to go. Get a flat-screen TV and at least one video game console. Put a stereo in the room so the teen can plug in an MP3 player. Buy a mini-fridge where the teen can store soft drinks. Try more modern decor on the walls, such as funky paintings. Stay away from posters of celebrities or bands. You can even place old arcade machines and a pool table into the room.
