Many Jewish community centers in Texas offer sports programs for children.

Jewish community centers around the United States exist to provide a venue for families to come together in friendship, affiliation and socialization. The Jewish Community Center of Dallas provides many sports programs for Jewish children, as well as others in the community. These sports programs not only encourage physical activity, they also create an opportunity for children to foster their Jewish values. Anyone may participate at Jewish Community Centers. The website of the Jewish Community Center of Dallas states: "Everyone, regardless of age, race, religious affiliation, or any other protected status, is welcome."

  1. Team Sports

    • Team sports such as basketball, football and soccer are offered at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas. The center provides a wide array of programs all year round for children. The Junior Basketball League is available for children in grades 1 to 10 and Flag Football for children grades 1 to 6. Children ages 4 to 11 can also join the Youth Soccer League. All programs are aimed to foster sportsmanship and friendship.

    Individual Sports

    • The Jewish Community Center of Dallas has an extensive program for tennis for children of all ages. Tennis Tykes is for children 3 to 5 years of age while Pee Wee Tennis is for children ages 4 to 5. Children ages 6 to 12 can attend Future Stars, Junior Acers Clinic, Youth Clinic-The Basics and High Beginners Superstars. They also have the J Tennis Academy for Juniors which is for more advanced players ages 9 to 18 years old. Children can also take swim classes at the center's 6-lane, 25-yard competition style pool. The JCC offers group, private and semi-private swim lessons for swimmers of all ages.

    Annual Bagel Run

    • Aside from the sports programs, the Jewish Community Center of Dallas also hosts the Annual Bagel Run held on a Sunday morning in May, which includes the Kids K run, along with 5K and 10K runs for adults. After the event, participants can enjoy bagels while kids can have fun at the bounce house in the Kidz Zone. Children must pre-register for this event.

    JCC Maccabi Games

    • Another special event in which Dallas teens can participate is the JCC Maccabi Games, an Olympic-style sporting competition in which teams from various Jewish Community Centers around North America compete with each other in different sports. Only Jewish teenagers ages 13 to 17 may compete in the JCC Maccabi Games. Those who wish to be part of Team Dallas must try out for a sport they want to compete in. Teens chosen for Team Dallas will travel to the final competition that is held each summer at different locations in North America.
