The Requirements to Take the TOEFL at GPC

The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL allows International students to attend college in the United States. The TOEFL measures a student's ability to read, use and understand English at the university level. Georgia Perimeter College, or GPC, requires that students meet the minimum requirements set by the TOEFL in order to complete testing with few exceptions.

  1. Testing

    • GPC does not provide the TOEFL test to students on campus. Testing must be completed at a testing site of your choice in the location where you completed high school. There are testing locations in Georgia that provide the TOEFL test. A list of testing locations can be found on the TOEFL website.

    Registration

    • You can register to complete the TOEFL over the Internet, by mail or in person. Registration over the Internet requires that you have a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB or Discover credit card. As of 2011, American Express, Discover, JCB and MasterCard are not acceptable forms of payment in Benin, Cameroon, Cote D'lvoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Togo. You must register at least seven days prior to the testing date in order to be allowed to test. You can also pay using electronic check or a voucher obtained from a local TOEFL iBT Test Resource Center. Late registration is allowed up to three days prior to the test for an additional fee of $35. The cutoff for phone registration, which requires one of the listed credit cards, is seven days before your testing date. Late registration is allowed by phone until 5 p.m. on the last business day before the test with the $35 fee. When registering by mail your paperwork must be received by the TOEFL registration offices at least four weeks prior to your testing date.

    Age

    • There is no age designation for the TOEFL but in order to enroll in GPC you must be at least 18 years of age or possess a high school diploma or GED.

    Exceptions

    • Individuals who have taken previous college courses in the United States and Canada (except Quebec), Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the English-speaking Caribbean and New Zealand are not required to complete the TOEFL. You must have college- or university-level transfer credits in English composition in order to qualify for an exception to this rule.
