Group Games to Play in Kindergarten
Having kindergartners participate in group games in the classroom will build their social skills and help them develop friendships with other children. Use your imagination, a few supplies and your creativity to plan group games for your kindergarten class. Awarding prizes, such as pencils or small toys, to game winners will keep the children interested in future games.

Buzzing Game

Have your kindergartners sit in a circle and select a volunteer to be "it" first. Have the child go outside the classroom, while you hand another student a marble or a coin. Have that child place the marble in his hand. Bring "it" back in and have him walk around the circle. Tell the children to make a buzzing noise as he walks around the circle. Tell the children to buzz louder as he walks near the person holding the object. Have the "it" player guess who has the object. Once he correctly guesses, select another volunteer to be "it" and play again.
Last Letter, First Letter

Tell your students to sit in a circle on the floor. Start the game by saying a word such as "cat." Tell the child beside you to say a word that begins with the last letter of the word you said, such as "toe." Have each player say a word using the last letter of the word the player in front of her said. Award prizes to each child for participation and effort.

Paper Plate Ring Toss

Cut the outside ring off several paper plates and paint them different colors. Fill several empty water bottles with play sand and scatter them all over the floor. Arrange the children into groups of four or five players and give each team 10 rings. Tell each team to stand at a line about 6 feet away from the bottles and attempt to toss the rings around the bottles. The team that rings the most water bottles wins the game and a small prize.
Paper Fight

Use masking tape to draw a line down the middle of the classroom and arrange the players into two groups. Have each group get on one side of the line and give them a newspaper. When you say, "Go," have the children wad and crumble up the newspaper to throw it across the line. The children can also pick up any paper on their side and throw it back. The object of the game is to have the least amount of paper on the side of the line when time is up. Set a timer for five minutes. The team with the least amount of paper on their side at the end wins the game.
