There are more than 150 wedding venues in Houston.

With more than 2 million people within its city limits, Houston, Texas is the fourth largest city in the nation. For a little ol' town the size of Houston, weddings are big business, and brides are presented with an opportunity and a challenge to find the venue that best suits their needs. For Houstonians, the abundance of wedding locations may be overwhelming, but after a bride and groom decide on their budget, type of wedding and number of guests, they can enjoy the serious business of finding the right wedding spot.

  1. The Houstonian Hotel

    • Located west of downtown and just outside of the loop, the Houstonian Hotel is nestled inside of an 18-acre wooded retreat. If everything is bigger in Texas, the Houstonian is no exception. On property, there are 26 venues for weddings ranging from intimate hideaways to grand ballrooms. Outdoor weddings are held on the grounds using nature as the decorative backdrop. And indoor weddings may be held in a host of settings including one of the hotel's four wood-paneled ballrooms or the intimate Manor House for smaller gatherings. Couples who choose the Houstonian may also avail themselves of the hotel's wedding coordination services including menu planning, floral arrangements, entertainment and the all-important cake selection.

    The Bell Tower on 34th

    • Bells foundered in 1916 and 1934 will greet the bride upon arrival at the Bell Tower on 34th. Typical of Texas architecture, the venue is built in a grand Spanish hacienda or Mediterranean villa style. Polished and rough-hewn stonework, dramatic staircases and iron chandeliers are just a few of the decorative touches. Balconies provide opportunities for toasts, the bouquet toss or a small choir to serenade the new couple. There are six indoor and three outdoor event possibilities, or the entire venue may be appropriate for lavish weddings with an invite list of 1,200 guests. Seated dinners, buffets or passed appetizers are among the available meal choices. And although couples may choose their own wedding professionals, the Bell Tower management encourages specific professionals who have experience with on-site events.

    Downtown Aquarium

    • The dichotomy of an undersea paradise and the glittering Houston skyline attract couples who want a memorable wedding in a space that tells a lot about their personalities. The aquarium is a marriage of the old to the new and was built around the renovated downtown Fire Station No. 1 and the Central Waterworks building. A Ferris wheel, carousel, water features and of course more than 200 species of aquatic life complete the distinctive setting. The 6,000 foot Nautilus Ballroom is accented with a floor-to-ceiling fish tank and is awash in a sea of blue furnishings, including nautilus-backed chairs. The room is appropriate for up to 600 guests and offers a beautiful view of downtown Houston.

    House Plantation

    • Southern belles love their southern weddings, and they especially love their southern weddings against the backdrop of a stately, historic plantation home. The 1890s House Plantation is a traditional, whitewashed Victorian home that features expansive covered porches and verandas. Just northwest of the greater Houston area in Hockley, the plantation sits within a 400-acre tree farm that also includes a lake, affording the bridal party and guests plenty of room to stretch their legs and put their boots up as they enjoy the scenery. Although the plantation advises that they are not in the business of providing the groom, they do offer full wedding services such as invitations, catering, horse and carriage, flowers, limousine service, food and even fireworks.
