Menu Ideas for a Kids' Party

Menu Ideas for a Kids' Party thumbnail
Kids love to eat, especially at parties.

It's your child's birthday, and you have decided to throw a party, complete with decorations, presents and, of course, food. Kids generally enjoy basic, simple food, so you won't need to worry about making fancy appetizers and entrees for them. Stick with the classics, done well, and your party is sure to be a hit. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Hot Dogs and Hamburgers

    • Almost all children are familiar with and love hot dogs and hamburgers. You can cook these indoors in just a few minutes by using your stove, or, if it's a nice day, consider grilling. Provide a toppings bar, consisting of cheese, mustard, ketchup and onions. Also slice up some lettuce and tomatoes for the hamburgers. For side dishes, give each child a pickle and homemade french fries. Make the fries by simply cutting a potato into thin strips, then baking or frying the strips. Add salt or fry seasoning, if desired. If you don't have time to make fries, potato chips will likely be well received, too.

    Mexican Fiesta

    • If the children at your party like Mexican food, consider preparing tacos. Tacos are easy to make and can be prepared in a few minutes. Just cook ground beef or turkey in a pan, then add taco seasoning. Set out taco shells and tortillas, as well as cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and hot sauce. Let the kids make their tacos however they like. You can also include refried or black beans as a side dish. Set out a bowl of fresh guacamole and chips as an appetizer.

    Pizza and Pasta

    • Most children enjoy eating pizza, and some may even insist on it for their party. Order pizza from a local pizzeria or make your own. To make your own, pick up a pre-made crust, then coat it with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and any toppings the kids ask for, such as pepperoni and mushrooms. You can also turn this into an activity if you want to let the kids make their own pizza. Provide pasta, such as spaghetti or macaroni and cheese, on the side or as its own dish. Include a basket of hot garlic bread to finish off the meal.

    Dessert

    • No party is quite complete without something sweet to eat. If it's a birthday party, you will probably already have a cake. Even if it's not a birthday party, you can pick up a pre-made cake at most stores, or make one yourself. Cupcakes are also popular. Set out a few different flavors of ice cream. Most children like basic flavors, like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Include cones and toppings such as sprinkles, cookie pieces, whipped cream and syrup. Let the kids have fun putting together their own ice cream cones.
